Nick Wey's Moto 1 Crash Hampers Results In Return From Injury

Recapped By: Pat Schutte - OMS Sports

SOUTHWICK, MA (June 9, 2002) - Team Moto XXX's Nick Wey, back for the first race following some minor knee surgery, finished 17th overall at Round Four of the AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championships at the Southwick National. Wey finished 34/13 in the two moto format.

"I crashed in the first moto and had to pull off," said Wey. "Nothing serious, but I wasn't 100-percent at the time. I rested a bit and got it back together for the second moto and rode pretty well. I was keeping pace with a group of guys that included Ezra Lusk and Doug Henry. So, overall, had I not crashed in the first moto it would have been a pretty good weekend."

Wey sits in 34th place overall in the 250 class, having raced only one Outdoor National this year. He says he's looking forward to continual improvement throughout the season and being in top shape to the site where he won his first National ever - Millville (August 18th).

"Missing the first three rounds was awfully tough on me," said Wey. "I have done very well racing motocross through out my history - from Loretta Lynn's (Nick has an amazing eight national amateur championships to his credit) to the Outdoor National series. My knee's still a bit stiff, but there's no pain. So I'm certain I'll continue to improve and be up to full speed by Red Bud (July 7)."

Wey and the Moto XXX team travel this Sunday to Budds Creek MX Park in Budds Creek, MA for Round Five of the AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championships.
