Nick Wey Finishes Fifth in 250cc Main in San Diego

Recapped By: Doug Hein

I have been making big improvements over the past weekends so was expecting good results out of the last west coast round in San Diego. I was feeling good coming into the weekend after an abbreviated riding schedule through the week due to my broken big toe.

My mechanic Kristian Kibby has had my bike tuned to perfection in the past few week and my confidence in my Mach 1 Yamaha has been getting me some very respectable lap times through practice and qualifying. I just missed making it out of the heat race by one position because a tuff block that set a pick on me for Roncada. It was a close race for 4th on the last lap with myself missing out and ending up in 5th place. The good part is that in my next race the semi I ended up winning the. I was pumped to do well against some good competition, which gave me a little more confidence going to the main.

In the main event I finished the first lap in 5th or 6th, which was my best start ever and was determined to move up. Byrne was the guy in 4th I was trying to catch the whole time but he was going fast. Some lappers held me up when I tried to make a run on him at the end and I never caught him, but I was really happy to end up the race in 5th.

My bike is working awesome thanks to Yamaha, Mach1, Pro Circuit, Enzo Suspension, Bridgestone, and my mechanic Kibby so I am looking to improve on last weekends results in Minneapolis.
