Nick Wey Struggles Through Daytona for a Fifth Place Finish

Recapped By: Pat Schutte - OMS Sports

ST. LOUIS, (March 8, 2004) - Team Suzuki's top factory pilot - Nick Wey - laid down one of the team's best efforts in recent years when he raced all the way back from 17th place to score a top five finish at Daytona on his RM 250 this past Friday. With the effort Wey now has a solid hold on sixth place in the overall 250 class standings of the THQ/AMA Supercross Series and is within striking distance of Michael Byrne in the top five.

"I was kind of having some problems in practice," explained Wey, who heads to St. Louis this weekend for Round 11 of the series. "With Daytona being a one-off supercross/National track and all, we couldn't get the suspension quite dialed in until the main. So I'd had some problems in my qualifiers, but knew once I got to the main my RM 250 would be flying."

And it was.

Wey's performance, coming back from 17th place after the first lap to fifth place overall was nothing short of astounding. "Yeah, it was a pretty good comeback I guess," said Wey. "But I'm pumped, ready and need to get a trophy this weekend."

Last year at St. Louis, Wey finished fifth overall in the 250 class.

The following weekend (March 20) Wey and Team Suzuki travel to Indianapolis for Round 12 of the 2004 THQ/AMA Supercross Series.
