Get Off Keeps Nick Wey Out of the Top Five at Indy

Recapped By: Pat Schutte - OMS Sports

PONTIAC, Mich., (March 22, 2004) - Team Suzuki's highest-ranked 250cc rider, Nick Wey, blazed out to a top three spot early in the race at Indy's RCA Dome on Saturday, only to run into some difficulties and have to settle for an uncharacteristic 11th place overall finish

Still, with rival Damon Huffman placing 20th overall, Wey was able hold onto sixth place in the standings, just a handful of points behind Michael Byrne in 5th place overall.

"Yeah, I'm not pleased at all with the way things went at Indy," said Wey. "My bike was running great, had no problems in practice and did well in my heat race. I got a good start then had a bit of a get off in the main which kept me out of the top five. I'm going to take this week off here and work on a few things, come back strong for Pontiac."

Last year at Pontiac Wey finished in 8th place.

"It's always a busy week for me, but I enjoy coming home to Michigan to race," said Wey. "And if there's one place I'd really like to podium, it's here in front of my home State fans. So I'm definitely looking forward to putting Indy behind me, getting in a solid week of training and rolling into Pontiac on fire and ready to finish well."

Wey and Team Suzuki get a break this next week and return to action for Round 13 of the 2004 THQ/AMA Supercross Series at the Pontiac, Mich., Silverdome (April 3).
