Nick Wey Cuts Into Points Gap Between Him at Michael Byrne for Fifth Overall SX Position

Recapped By: Pat Schutte - OMS Sports

DALLAS, (April 19, 2004) - Team Suzuki's top 250cc rider - Nick Wey - raced to a seventh place finish at the Dallas Supercross on Saturday. Not the best finish of the year for Wey by any means, although he did cut into the points between him and fifth place overall Michael Byrne. The lead now stands at a mere five points.

"We've got two races to go and fifth place is in my sights," said Wey. "I've been chipping away at Byrner's lead for the past few races and I've got the lead down to five points. Things will get interesting here the next two races."

After getting out of his heat race (4th place Heat 1) with no trouble, Wey opened the main event with a mid-pack start, something that has plagued him all season. But, he also followed that up with something he can be proud of - another fantastic come-from-behind effort that got him all the way up to seventh.

"I'm pulling a good start at Salt Lake," said Wey. "I don't care if I get caught up in the pack, I'm diving into it, holding the gas on and coming out with a good start." Note: Last year Wey had a great race at Rice-Eccles Stadium, finishing fourth overall.

Wey and Team Suzuki get a break this next week and return to action for Round 14 of the 2004 THQ/AMA Supercross Series in Salt Lake City (April 24).
