T-Wey Works With Nick to aid in Nick's Successful Starts at Southwick

Recapped By: Pat Schutte - OMS Sports

BUDDS CREEK, Md., (June 16, 2004) - Team Suzuki's Nick Wey was shot out of a cannon in the first moto, battling RC to a second position on the holeshot and holding off a feverous charge from teammate Sean Hamblin late in the race to take a fourth overall in the first moto at Southwick.

"Yeah, I was poised for a fourth o/a," said Wey.

Unfortunately, in the second moto, Wey would suffer a DNF (34) and would have to settle for a 12th place overall finish in the 250 class (5-34).

Wey credits his dad, "T-Wey" (Terry), with his success with his starts this past weekend. Said T-Wey: "We watched some film of last year's race and looked where the starts were coming from. We took John Dowd's start, then Nick decided at the last second to move down three spots - and it worked."

This weekend Wey and Team Suzuki roll into Budds Creek, Md., for Round Four of the AMA Chevrolet Motocross Championship. Last year at Budds Creek Wey finished 17th overall (11-34). Added Wey: "Yeah, I definitely plan on some better results at Budds this year. Especially with that second moto disappointment from Southwick still fresh in my mind."
