Nick Wey Ready for Red Bud Now that Budds Creek is Finished

Recapped By: Pat Schutte - OMS Sports

ANAHEIM, Calif., (June 23, 2004) - Michigan's Nick Wey is looking forward to getting back on his home turf - Red Bud - in order to rebound after last weekend's 12th place finish (10-16) at Budds Creek.

"Budds Creek fired me up," said Wey. "I'm over races like that and plan on putting something big together at Red Bud, get things rolling for the rest of the season."

In Wey's defense, his RM 250 picked up something in the back brake early on in the second moto and he was forced to race for much of the moto with his back wheel dragging. Wey remained in the top ten in the standings (ninth), and within 30 points of the top five with just a third of the season complete.

"Suzuki's given me what I feel is the fastest two stroke in the field," said Wey, who proved that at Southwick two weeks ago when he nearly pulled the holeshot - in a gate dominated by four strokes - in the first moto. "I'm looking forward to heading back to Michigan and working with my dad (Terry Wey) on a few things.

"You'll definitely be seeing better results out of me beginning at Red Bud."

Note: Wey will be riding with Lansing, Mich., WILX (NBC) reporter Ben Holden in a press day event a week from today at Wey's home in DeWitt, Mich.
