MDK Motorsports’ Nick Wey Has Successful Knee Surgery

Lake Elsinore, Calif., (February 18, 2005) One of the feel-good stories of the season so far, MDK Motorsports’ Nick Wey injured his already-sore knee in practice for the Indianapolis Supercross last Friday, February 11th at the RCA Dome. Unfortunately, after visiting with his doctor, it was determined that he would need surgery to fix his left knee. He had surgery yesterday, February 17th, and the surgery was a success – although he will likely miss the rest of the 2005 THQ/AMA Supercross Series and World Supercross GP Series.

“I really feel like I’ve been riding really well,” Wey said. “I mean, I was only eight points out of third in the AMA Series going into Indy and I was third in the World Supercross Series – and I really felt like my best races were yet to come. If I could ride even close to how fast I think I need to be, I would have just kept going, but I just couldn’t. I just want to thank MDK Motorsports for standing behind me, and I look forward to going after it outdoors on my CRF450. I’ve never had the opportunity to ride a 450 outdoors, so once I heal up, this should be good.”

There are no immediate plans to replace Wey on the team, which means MDK Motorsports may only attend 125cc Western Regional races for the rest of the supercross season, in order to support Eric McCrummen.

“Nick has been a dream to work with, and more than anything, I’m bummed for him,” said team owner Mark Kvamme. “However, knowing Nick, he will come back stronger and faster for the outdoors. I can’t wait to see what he can do on the 450 starting at Hangtown.”

MDK Motorsports' 2005 sponsors include: Pro Circuit, Honda, Cernic’s, Bridgestone, Gambol, Execute Sports, Maxima, Hinson, Light Speed, Scott, I-Moto, Tag Sprockets, Twin-Air, Newfern and UFO.

Nick Wey wears MSR gear, HJC helmets, Scott goggles and Oxtar boots.

Eric McCrummen wears Shift gear, Fox boots, Fox helmets and Scott goggles.
