Team MDK/Unbound Energy’s Nick Wey All Set For Unadilla

With three consecutive sixth-place finishes, Wey climbs to within several points of top ten overall despite missing two of the first five rounds of the AMA Motocross Championship, presented by FMF

CARLSBAD, Calif., (July 14, 2005) – Hard work has definitely paid off for Team MDK/Unbound Energy’s Nick Wey as he continues his meteoric rise up the overall standings of the AMA Motocross Championship's 250 class, this past race recording his third consecutive sixth place finish and moving to within five points of the top ten in the standings.

This weekend will mark the first time Wey will race the legendary Unadilla track with the advantage of a four-stroke motorcycle, bringing his well-tuned privateer Honda CRF450R to the hallowed grounds of ‘Dilla for what should be a barnburner of a contest on Sunday.

“It’s definitely going to be interesting racing a 450 there – I’m really looking forward to it,” said Wey. “Last year I was on an RM 250 and though the bike was fast, at a place like Unadilla the 450s were at a decided advantage on several areas of the track. So to have that advantage on my side this year will be nice and I’m definitely looking to improve upon my 8th place finish there last year.”

At the ’04 Unadilla round, Wey went 10-6 for his 8th o/a. It’s also a place where he was involved in the most spectacular wreck of his career, the 2002 accident that flipped him off his bike and through the air about as far as an NBA three-pointer. Luckily, Wey wasn’t seriously injured in the accident.

“Yeah, that one definitely made the highlight reels,” added Wey.

This past race at RedBud – Wey’s home track – the DeWitt, Mich., native put on an impressive chase and pass on factory Honda racer Travis Preston in the first moto, while also getting the better of another factory racer on the afternoon – Michael Byrne of Kawasaki. His 6-7 moto performance was good enough for sixth overall – his third consecutive sixth place finish in as many races this year.

“RedBud’s always a good race,” said Wey. “Easily the biggest crowd I’ve ever seen there and they really got behind the local racers. I could hear them cheer every time I came around the crowded sections of the track.”

Unbound Energy is available in 16 oz. cans at BP and am/pm retail locations.
